Researched 14 September 2026. Fares verified against official sources — Seoul Metropolitan Government, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and Airport Limousine. Each figure notes when that fare took effect. Where we could not confirm something, we say “unconfirmed” rather than guess. Korean, Japanese and Chinese versions are also published.
If you aren’t carrying much luggage, take the train or the limousine bus. A taxi from Incheon Airport into central Seoul starts around ₩55,000. The Airport Railroad is under ₩5,000.
Three things to know before you land
One. If you aren’t going to Seoul, don’t go to Seoul. Incheon Airport has direct intercity buses to the whole country. Busan, Gwangju, Daejeon, Gangneung — no transfers.
Two. There is no out-of-city surcharge from Incheon Airport to Seoul. If the meter shows a surcharge from the moment you set off, that is the scam.
Three. Do not follow anyone who approaches you inside the terminal. Licensed taxis do not tout for passengers.
From Incheon Airport — all the options
Figures are for Terminal 1. Terminal 2 is about 6 km further: add roughly ₩600 and 8 minutes on the train, and ₩7,000–9,000 by taxi. Limousine fares are the same from both terminals.
| Destination | Airport Railroad | Limousine | Taxi (standard, daytime) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jongno | ~₩4,700 + transfer | Bus 6002 — ₩17,000 | ₩55,000–65,000 + toll |
| Myeongdong | ~₩4,700 + transfer | Bus 6001 / 6015 — ₩17,000 | ₩55,000–65,000 + toll |
| Hongdae | ~₩4,350 | Bus 6002 — ₩17,000 | ₩50,000–60,000 + toll |
| Gangnam | ~₩5,000 (1 transfer) | Bus 6020 — ₩17,000 | ₩60,000–70,000 + toll |
The ₩3,200 toll is paid by the passenger. That is the Yeongjong Bridge rate at the airport tollgate, in effect since 1 October 2023. Older guides quote ₩6,600 or ₩7,900 — both are obsolete.
The Express train costs ₩11,000 and reaches Seoul Station in 43 minutes. But it stops only at Seoul Station. Not Hongdae, not Gangnam. Unless your hotel is near Seoul Station, it buys you nothing.
⚠️ Why the train fares say “about”
Applying the 28 June 2025 increase gives roughly ₩4,750 to Seoul Station, but the Airport Railroad’s official site would not load during our research, so we could not confirm the final figure. Expect a difference of a few hundred won at the gate.
From Gimpo Airport
Gimpo Airport is inside Seoul (Gangseo District). That means no out-of-city surcharge and no expressway toll — ever. If a driver asks for an “airport surcharge” or a toll here, that alone is a warning sign.
| Destination | Subway | Taxi (standard, daytime) |
|---|---|---|
| Jongno | ₩1,550 (Line 5 to Gwanghwamun, ~40 min) | ₩23,000–32,000 |
| Myeongdong | ₩1,550 (~40–55 min) | ₩20,000–30,000 |
| Hongdae | ₩1,550 (Airport Railroad, ~14 min) | ₩16,000–20,000 |
| Gangnam | ₩1,550 (Line 9 express to Sinnonhyeon, ~30 min) | ₩25,000–32,000 |
There is almost no reason to take a taxi from Gimpo. Four lines serve it — 5, 9, the Airport Railroad and the Gimpo Goldline. For Gangnam, Line 9 express takes 30 minutes for ₩1,550.
Going somewhere other than Seoul? Don’t enter Seoul
This is the section that will save you the most.
Incheon Airport is itself a national bus terminal. Going into Seoul Station or the Express Bus Terminal and back out means dragging your suitcase through two or three transfers.
Where to board
| Terminal | Intercity bus stops | Ticket office |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal 1 | Outside, 1st floor, in front of exits 11–13 | Indoors near exits 4 and 9 / outdoors near exits 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13 |
| Terminal 2 | Basement 1, Transportation Center, west side, stops 1–10 | Basement 1 Transportation Center ticket office |
Do not follow the “Seoul” signs when you come out of arrivals. Intercity departures are the other way.
Main routes
| Destination | Fare (approx.) | Journey | Daily departures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gwangju | ~₩40,000s (deluxe) | 3 h 50 m – 4 h 15 m | 37 · every 10–40 min |
| Daejeon | ~₩35,000s | 3–4 h | 62 · every 10–30 min |
| Busan | ~₩49,000s (deluxe) | ~5 h – 5 h 20 m | 16 (to Haeundae) |
| Dongdaegu | ~₩43,000s | unconfirmed | 31 |
| Jeonju | ~₩30,000s | 3 h – 3 h 25 m | 22 |
| Gangneung | ~₩37,000s | 3 h 55 m – 4 h 15 m | 9 |
| Sokcho | ~₩36,000s | 3 h 30 m – 4 h | 4 |
| Chuncheon | ~₩26,000s | 2 h 20 m – 2 h 40 m | 18 |
| Ulsan | ~₩49,000s | ~5 h | 9 |
| Yeosu | ~₩50,000s | 5 h 50 m – 6 h 15 m | 3–4 |
| Mokpo | ~₩44,000s | 5 h – 5 h 25 m | 6 |
| Cheongju | ~₩30,000s | 2 h 20 m – 2 h 50 m | frequent |
Why fares are given as ranges: intercity fares are adjusted yearly and differ by class (standard, deluxe, night deluxe, premium). Check the exact fare at bustago.or.kr or kobus.co.kr — both support English, Japanese and Chinese.
We could not confirm whether routes to Changwon, Masan, Pohang, Gyeongju, Jinju or Gumi exist.
Busan, three ways
| Method | Cost | Time | Transfers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct bus from Incheon Airport | ~₩49,400 | ~5 h 20 m | none |
| Via KTX (get to Seoul or Gwangmyeong first) | ₩66,400–72,700 | ~4 h | 1 |
| Domestic flight via Gimpo | over ₩100,000 | ~2 h 30 m | 1 + re-check-in |
The direct bus is ₩17,000–23,000 cheaper than KTX. It takes about 80 minutes longer, but you don’t drag luggage through a transfer after a long flight.
💡 Busan, Gwangju and Daejeon run frequently enough to buy on the spot. But Yeosu, Mokpo, Samcheok and Taebaek run only 1–4 times a day — book ahead.
Foreign-issued cards often fail online identity verification in Korea. If that happens, just buy at the airport ticket office.
How much luggage justifies a taxi? Use a number
Don’t decide by feel. The limousine bus baggage rules are the clearest line available.
| Rule | Limit |
|---|---|
| Free allowance | 2 pieces per person |
| Size | under 28 inches, sum of three sides ≤ 158 cm |
| Weight | under 20 kg (at 20 kg or more, 1 piece per person) |
| Excess | ₩8,000 per piece (₩4,000 at Gimpo) |
| Note | Bags you carry onto the bus count toward the allowance |
So a 28-inch suitcase cannot go on the limousine bus. If that’s what you travel with, plan for a taxi from the start.
Decision table
| Situation | Take |
|---|---|
| Alone, one bag 27″ or smaller | Airport Railroad |
| Two people, two bags | Airport Railroad or limousine |
| Three or more people, or 2+ large bags | Limousine — luggage hold, no transfers |
| Four or more people with four or more bags | One jumbo taxi |
| You have a 28-inch case | Taxi |
| Arriving after 23:00 | Night bus |
⚠️ Taking a suitcase on the Airport Railroad
Avoid weekday mornings, 08:00–09:00. Line 9 express congestion reaches 194%. There is no room to stand with a case.
Jumbo taxis — the right answer when you have a lot of bags
Many travellers with several suitcases call two standard taxis. One jumbo taxi is cheaper than that.
| Standard | Jumbo / Deluxe | |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 4 | 6–10 seats (airport signage says 9) |
| Base fare | ₩4,800 / 1.6 km | ₩7,000 / 3 km |
| Distance rate | ₩100 per 131 m | ₩200 per 151 m |
| Late night 23:00–02:00 | +40% | +20% (no 40% band) |
| Out-of-city | Seoul 20% / Incheon 30% | 20% |
The gap narrows at night. When standard taxis add 40%, jumbo taxis add 20%.
Family of four, four suitcases, Incheon Airport to Gangnam
| Method | Total | Per person |
|---|---|---|
| Subway | ~₩20,000 | ~₩5,000 |
| Limousine 6020 | ₩68,000 | ₩17,000 |
| One jumbo taxi | ~₩85,000–100,000 + toll | ~₩22,600–26,400 |
| Two standard taxis | ~₩126,000–146,000 + toll | ~₩33,000–38,000 |
A jumbo taxi is never cheaper than the subway. You take one to move four suitcases in a single trip — and for that job it is about ₩10,000 per person cheaper than two standard taxis.
Where to find them
| Terminal | Jumbo / deluxe | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal 1 | 7C · 8C | 5C · 6C · 6D |
| Terminal 2 | 7D | 7C |
All are outside on the arrivals level. Just queue — no booking. Jumbo taxis are fewer, so you may wait.
⚠️ “Jumbo taxi” is not a legal category
Search “Incheon Airport jumbo taxi” online and some results are call-van operators, not taxis. You cannot tell from the vehicle (Staria, Carnival, Solati look identical). Look at the licence plate colour.
A real jumbo taxi is queued at a stand and runs on the meter. If someone calls themselves a jumbo taxi and quotes a flat fare, it is either not a taxi or it is an illegal fare.
Limousine routes by destination

| 6103 | Samseong / COEX City Airport Terminal (non-stop) | ₩18,000 |
Children generally pay ₩11,000–12,000. At Terminal 2 you must buy a ticket before boarding.
Route 6103 runs non-stop along the Olympic Expressway, about 65 minutes from T1 to COEX — but 85 minutes if it calls at T2 first.
Arriving late at night
| Route | Serves | Fare | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| N6002 | Hongdae 45 min → Four Seasons 60 min → Cheongnyangni 90 min | ₩17,000 | 45 min to Hongdae |
| N6701 | Mapo 50 min → Seoul Station 60 min → DDP 70 min | ₩18,000 | — |
| N6000 | Songjeong → Yeomchang → Express Bus Terminal 70 min | ₩17,000 | — |
| N6703 | Seorae Village 50 min → COEX 65 min → Jamsil 70 min | ₩18,000 | — |
For Hongdae, N6002 is fastest at 45 minutes. For Myeongdong, take N6701 to Seoul Station and continue from there.
Board at T1 arrivals level, stand 3B (N6701, N6703) and 6A (N6000, N6002).
Transit cards and transfers
Always tap out when you leave. This is the mistake foreign visitors make most often. Without tapping out, no transfer discount applies.
| Item | Fare |
|---|---|
| Subway base fare | ₩1,550 (single-journey ticket ₩1,650; from 28 June 2025) |
| Trunk / branch bus | ₩1,500 |
| Wide-area bus | ₩3,000 |
| Night bus | ₩2,500 |
| Village bus | ₩1,200 |
| Transfer window | 30 min after tapping out (60 min between 21:00 and 07:00) |
| Transfers allowed | up to 4 |
| Single-journey card deposit | ₩500 (refunded at the machine after your trip) |
Cash gets no transfer discount. Even on a short trip, a transit card pays for itself.
⚠️ The Climate Card does not work at Incheon Airport Station
Seoul’s Climate Card pass (₩5,000 / 1 day, ₩10,000 / 3 days, ₩20,000 / 7 days) covers the Airport Railroad only between Seoul Station and Gimpo Airport. Incheon Airport Station is outside the zone, and staff will charge you the fare separately when you exit.
Buy it after you reach the city. The Myeongdong Tourist Information Center sells it.
K-Pass requires an alien registration number. Short-term visitors cannot use it.
⚠️ The scams, and what to do
Refusing the meter and negotiating a price — this is illegal
Incheon City’s official wording: all taxis may collect only the metered fare, and violation is an administrative offence of unfair fare collection.
Seoul classifies these as unfair fares:
- Not running the meter, or tampering with it
- Taking a detour without your consent and charging for it
- Applying the out-of-city surcharge before leaving Seoul
- Not giving change, or refusing to
- Charging a one-way passenger for a round-trip toll
Fines are ₩200,000 first offence, ₩400,000 second, ₩600,000 third, escalating to licence suspension and revocation.
The out-of-city surcharge — where most visitors get caught
Incheon and Gimpo airports share a joint operating zone with Seoul.
Incheon Airport’s official wording: no out-of-city surcharge applies when travelling from the airport to the six cities of Seoul, Incheon, Goyang, Gwangmyeong, Gimpo and Bucheon.
| Route | Out-of-city surcharge |
|---|---|
| Incheon Airport → Seoul (Jongno, Myeongdong, Hongdae, Gangnam) | None |
| Incheon Airport → Incheon, Bucheon, Gimpo, Goyang, Gwangmyeong | None |
| Incheon Airport → Suwon, Seongnam, elsewhere | Applies |
| Gimpo Airport → central Seoul | None |
| Central Seoul → Incheon Airport | None |
If the surcharge button is on as you set off, that is the scam. Seoul reported that the most common violation against foreign passengers was exactly this — “because foreigners find it hard to check.”
Unlicensed vehicles that approach you — one detail settles it
| Licence plate | |
|---|---|
| Legal commercial (taxi, call van) | Yellow |
| Illegal unlicensed vehicle | White — a private car operating illegally. Passenger insurance does not apply |
The vehicles look identical. You must check the plate.
Legal call vans charge about ₩74,000 to Hongdae and ₩80,000 to Myeongdong / Euljiro / Namsan (as reported in July 2025). Illegal operators charge three to four times that. In one past case, a ₩186,000 journey was billed at ₩1,860,000.
Airport authorities, the district office, city hall and police run joint crackdowns, but this was still raised in the 2025 National Assembly audit.
Three rules.
1. Do not follow anyone who speaks to you inside the terminal. Licensed taxis don’t tout. 2. Go outside to the marked rank on the arrivals level and queue. 3. Check that the plate is yellow.
Deliberate detours — know the normal distance
| Route | Normal distance | Normal time |
|---|---|---|
| Incheon T1 → Myeongdong / Seoul Station | ~52–55 km | 50–70 min |
| Incheon T1 → Jongno | ~55 km | 55–75 min |
| Incheon T1 → Hongdae | ~48–50 km | 50–60 min |
| Incheon T1 → Gangnam Station | ~58–62 km | 52–70 min |
| Gimpo → Myeongdong | ~18 km | 30–45 min |
| Gimpo → Hongdae | ~13 km | 25–35 min |
Heading into Seoul, you cross the Yeongjong Bridge. If the receipt shows the Incheon Bridge toll (₩2,000), you were taken south.
Simply having a map app open on your phone is a deterrent.
Refusing card payment — also illegal
A taxi fitted with a card reader may not refuse card payment. Penalties match unfair fares (₩200,000 / ₩400,000 + 10-day licence suspension / ₩600,000 + 20-day suspension).
A receipt must be issued on request.
💡 Paying by card leaves evidence
A taxi card receipt shows the vehicle number, time, and operator’s phone number.
If you leave something behind, call the operator number on the receipt. Seoul’s recovery rate for items left in taxis is 67.6%.
If there’s a fare dispute, you need the vehicle number and time for a report to go anywhere. No receipt? Use a screenshot of the payment, plus your pickup and drop-off points and times, plus a photo of the meter.
Where to report
| Situation | Contact | Number | Languages · hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seoul taxi: unfair fare, refusal, card refusal | Seoul Dasan Call Center | 120 (from abroad +82-2-731-2120) | English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Mongolian / weekdays 09:00–18:00 |
| Any tourism complaint or interpretation help | Korea Tourism Organization | 1330 (from abroad +82-2-1330) | 7 languages / daily 07:00–24:00, year-round |
| Something that happened at Incheon Airport | Incheon Airport call center | 1577-2600 | 07:00–22:00 |
| Crime, fraud, threat to safety | Police | 112 | interpretation available |
| Medical, fire | Emergency | 119 | interpretation available |
1330 also works over KakaoTalk, Facebook, LINE and WeChat.
Since 19 June 2025, QR complaint forms are handed out in the international departure halls at Incheon and Gimpo. They support English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese, and cover unfair fares, refusal of service, failure to use the meter, and operating outside the licensed zone.
⚠️ Watch the hours
If it happened at dawn, 120 is not open yet (weekdays 09:00–18:00). 1330 (07:00–24:00) is the practical choice. Between 00:00 and 07:00 both are closed. Secure your receipt and photos and report in the morning. For emergencies, 112.
Safer options
| Service | Available to visitors | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Uber | Yes | In Korea, Uber dispatches licensed taxis. Your home app works, with in-app translation and foreign card payment. Uber Reserve books up to 90 days ahead |
| k.ride | Yes | Kakao Mobility’s app for foreign visitors — smoother foreign-card registration and multilingual support |
| Kakao T | Partly | You can sign up with a foreign number, but approval can take days and foreign cards are often declined for auto-payment. Paying the driver directly is more reliable |
| International Taxi | Yes | Officially designated by Seoul. Flat fares by zone, so no meter anxiety. Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese. Book at least 24 hours ahead, 1644-2255 |
We could not confirm the current International Taxi flat fares — the rate page would not load. Seoul’s 2020 announcement gave a range of ₩65,000–130,000, and rates rose by ₩5,000–10,000 in 2024, so roughly ₩70,000–140,000 is likely — but confirm before booking.
What this article could not confirm
- The exact current Airport Railroad standard fare — the official site would not load
- First and last train times, and whether round-trip or visitor passes exist
- International Taxi flat fares and whether tolls are included
- Official confirmed intercity bus fares — ours come from secondary sources, hence the ranges
- Whether routes to Changwon, Masan, Pohang, Gyeongju, Jinju and Gumi exist
- Limousine routes 6005 and 6701 fares, and exact ticket-office exit numbers
- T-money card price and refund fee
- Through-running between Line 9 and the Airport Railroad — an agreement was reported but we could not confirm it has opened
- Kakao T Venti capacity, luggage rules and fare multiple
In short
If you have one suitcase of 27 inches or less, take the Airport Railroad. Under ₩5,000 from Incheon. A taxi starts at ₩50,000. From Gimpo, always take the subway.
If you’re going outside Seoul, catch the bus at Incheon Airport. Going into Seoul and back out means three transfers. The Busan bus is nearly ₩20,000 cheaper than KTX.
And watch the meter. Coming from Incheon Airport into Seoul, a surcharge means you’re being overcharged. Pay by card, take the receipt, and anything that goes wrong can be fixed.
Korean, Japanese and Chinese versions are also published. Busan, Incheon, Gwangju and Daejeon are coming, along with a food price guide.
